Sale Highlight! 9 1/4” tall by 7 3/4” Wide Hopewell storage jar that is fully inscribed. Solid with several small pressure cracks. Found by Cleve Pomranky Sr. at 1916 Pomranky Road Midland Twp. Midland Co. Michigan in 1954. The site is located in the Northwest quarter of the Northeast quarter of section 18 Township 14 North Range 2 East. This pottery vessel was recovered by Mr. Pomranky while digging sand from a sand ridge he owned which approaches the south bank of the Tittabawassee River from the East. Along with this pottery vessel Mr. Pomranky also found a cache of over 500 arrowheads. The site became known as the Pomranky Site which was a mortuary site that was professionally excavated. Information on the excavation was published by Lewis R. Binford. It is very rare to find Hopewell pottery in solid non-restored condition especially of this size. This is a museum quality artifact. From the collection of the late David L. Root. This item will be pictured in the upcoming book The Collection of David Leigh Root Vol. 3 which will come out in early 2023.
